I’m not sure watching the intro to Outward Bound and going into my first viewing knowing that Leslie Howard changed roles from the stage play was ideal knowledge to have. Still, seeing him as the skittish but brilliant drunk is enlightening. He’s certainly the highlight of the movie.
Watching him observe other people… there’s a level of detail he achieves that’s rare in films this early. He had an understanding of the medium that most hadn’t reached yet.
Also, he’s just damned beautiful.
